Open sea and sea kayak To adventure in a Sea Kayak provides those thirsty for exploration the opportunity to visit areas of coastland that are often unreachable by land, the exhilaration that comes from powering your craft through the sea, waves and swell and the peace and solitude that is rarely available on land.

Whilst the experience is comparable to mountaineering, and although you would not wish to lug your sea kayak overland, you do get the same physical exertion, the scenery, the seclusion and a level of personal challenge when you are out in a kayak that you get when tramping, trekking our mountain climbing. In fact the isolation can be more extreme, given the popularity of hill and mountain climbing in certain parts of the world.

If you are new to the basics of kayak, canoe or general seamanship techniques, but like the sound of giving a sea kayak a try, it is advisable to book on a trip that will provide a guide, training and equipment hire.

That said, once you have the basic skills, the basic sea kayak equipment you need is not extensive, but like many adventure sports, there is a wide range of advanced gear to temp you.
