Trek Check - What to pack for your trek.

This is a suggested list of items you will need to take on your trekking expedition and whilst not exhaustive, it should provide a starting point for your packing.

Sleeping

  • Backpack: full-size backpack for longer trips. For short, day long treks, a daypack may be sufficient.
  • Tent, sleeping bag and compact sleeping mat. These should be specified for the environment you are trekking in.

    What to Wear

  • Light-weight, good quality hiking boots that provide ankle support. Remember to wear them in before starting a long trek to avoid blisters. Include suitable socks.
  • Clothing: Remember that you can add layers for different temperatures at different altitudes and that everything you bring you will need to carry (unless you are on a trek that includes porterage). You should also include a complete change of clothing so you can get into dry clothes if what you are wearing gets soaked.
  • Light-weight raingear; if jacket can double as a windbreaker, this is doubly good.
  • Hat/cap with a brim for sun protection and sunglasses.

    Equipment

  • Multipurpose knife
  • Torch with spare batteries
  • Matches.
  • Water bottle and water purifying kit (if required for the area you are travelling in)
  • Towel and necessary toiletries, including toilet paper.
  • Insect repellent and sun block
  • Camera and lots of film.
  • First aid items.
