Milford Sound
Your expedition to Milford Sound from Queenstown will start with a coach (or car) trip that lasts several hours, 2 hours to Te Anau then a further 2 and a half hours to Milford Sound. There are numerous stopping points along the route however and you should take advantage of these to observe the mountain scenery and to break the journey.
Once you reach Milford Sound, a cruise boat will take you on a tour that lasts anything from one and a half to nearly three hours and can include an on board lunch. The Sound is best enjoyed from boat as you get to see the glacier carved rock sides (best after a heavy rainfall when the waterfalls are in full flow). Other sights can include seals basking in the sunshine.
